Sawn carcassing timber is used for mid-level flooring joists and partition walls. Normally graded to C16, although C24 is available at Ridgeons.

Treated Carcassing
Treated carcassing has been pressure treated to guard against insect attack and decay. At Ridgeons we pressure treat our timber with to Class 2 internal use above the Damp Proof Course. Our treated carcassing is touch dry. Some carcassing is treated to Class 3b for use above ground when exposed to wet regular wetting.

Ridgeons own 12 acre site stocks an enormous range of carcassing timber which is supplied to Ridgeons branches for collection or delivery onto our customers.

Kiln Dried
Kiln Drying carcassing after treatment makes the carcassing much more stable and thus accurate to then dimensions stated. After all timber is a natural product. Our carcassing is Kiln Dried at our 12 acre timber processing facility providing the following benefits;

• Moisture Content 20%
• Lighter Weight
• Reduction in shrinkage and distortion

Strength Grading
Carcassing timber is graded for strength purposes not for appearance, as carcassing is used for structural us in roof and floor joists.
Ridgeons carcassing strength grading provides the following benefits;

• Strength Class C16
• Strength Class C24
• Meets Building Regulations for internal structural applications
• Grading is for strength purposes not for appearance
• Splits or shakes in the centre of the timber do not affect strength

Sawn timber means rough sawn – ie: that the timber is not machined and is therefore does not have eased edges or a machined / smooth finish. Sawn carcassing is normally purchased for use when due to be machined to a different size.

Chain of Custody
All Ridgeons timber is provided with a chain of custody to confirm its origin from an ethically farmed and managed forest. Ridgeons subscribes to PEFC, FSC and Responsible Purchaser.

Timber Naming
All Ridgeons timber is named for easy identification its the products features;

Type of Timber: Construction timber
Nominal Dimension: In millimetres (the original dimension before sanding / machining)
Finished Dimension: In millimetres (the dimension after sanding / machining)
Machined: Machine sanded or regularised
Kiln Dried: Dried to 20% moisture
Treated: Treated against insect attack or decay
Strength Grading: C16 or C24
Chain of Custody: FSC or PEFC
