Steel lintels are used to cover a wide range of openings, thus Ridgeons provide; Box Lintels, Internal Lintels, Outer Skin Lintels and Cavity wall Lintels. Unlike concrete lintels, steel lintels are less likely to suffer from damage on site, are lighter than concrete so easy to handle. Most steel lintels are manufactured in pre-galvanised steel which is then cut to shape. When specifying a steel lintel you should firstly consider the type of construction and the opening being supported; External Cavity, External solid wall, Timber frame, Internal partition or internal load bearing wall. The second point to consider is the span to be covered or the lintel length, and the last calculation is the load to be carried.
